Persons under the age of 21 will be granted a driver's license in the UAE for a period of one year

The RTA management is going to discuss with the UAE Ministry of Internal Affairs the possibility of creating and putting into effect a system for issuing temporary driver's licenses to persons under 21 years of age for a period of not more than one year. Such a certificate will be issued to beginners for three consecutive years until they receive sufficient driving experience.

This proposal is based on the results of the RTA study, which showed that the vast majority of accidents in the country are usually caused by novice drivers who do not have sufficient driving experience and do not know how to behave properly on roads in emergency situations. Given the facts, RTA called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs to develop at the federal level a system of additional control and special conditions for novice drivers. Among other recommendations of the RTA, it should also be noted the suggestion that new drivers must use a sticker on the car window so that other road users know who is driving the neighboring vehicle.

In addition, people under the age of 21 who have received a temporary driver's license will be required to attend a lecture course on road safety, driving skills and behavior in the event of an accident.
