Notary services in the UAE

The Consular Section of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the UAE continues to acquaint readers of the Russian Emirates magazine with the most relevant consular issues.

In this issue of the magazine we will talk about notarial acts. Within the scope of their competence, consular officers shall notarize in full.

Based on established practice, most often citizens turn to the consulate or consular section of the embassy with the following questions: certification of powers of attorney for the right to use or dispose of property located in the territory of the Russian Federation; to receive and dispose of funds from individuals or legal entities; to receive parcels, correspondence and other documents; as well as obtaining powers of attorney issued in the order of transfer, and evidence of fidelity of translations, signatures and copies of documents.

I would like to draw special attention to that all notarial actions are carried out only (!) In the presence of the original valid passport of the Russian Federation and a personal visit to the consular post by the principal. The consular fee for issuing powers of attorney varies from 110 to 475 UAE dirhams per document.

The consulate carries out fidelity of translation only from Russian into English or Arabic. In this case, it is necessary to provide the consular department with the original document from which the translation was made. After the employee checks the accuracy of the translation, a receipt is issued to pay for the consular action. For citizens of Russia, this procedure costs 90 dirhams (when certifying the correctness of a translation from a foreign language into Russian) and 130 dirhams (from a Russian language into a foreign language).

At the same time, I would like to remind once again that the consulate does not translate documents (only the fidelity of the finished translation only indicates). The translation can be done independently or contact any legalized translation bureau in the UAE.

As for the certificate of fidelity of the signature on the document, I note that the consul testifies only to the fidelity of the citizen’s signature, and does not certify the content of the text set forth in the document.

To carry out this notarial action, a citizen whose signature needs to be verified must visit the consular post in person and also present the original valid passport. The consular fee for the certificate of authenticity of a signature on documents for Russian citizens is 35 UAE dirhams.

Certificate of fidelity of the copy is possible upon presentation of the original document from which the consular officer will make a copy and be certified. The consular fee for this action is 55 dirhams.

It should be noted that consular offices in the UAE do not accept cash.

All consular operations are paid through any branch of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi.
