British stunt blogger detained in Dubai

Dubai police detained a popular video blogger, famous for his dangerous tricks on high-rises and construction cranes of the emirate.

Dubai police detained the famous 25-year-old British video blogger James Kingston and brought him for interrogation due to another video with dangerous stunts on top of a tower crane and further posting on a YouTube channel.

The young man was brought to the police for interrogation on Saturday and was released from custody after 24 hours. Kingston was given a written warning.

Salim Khalifa Al Rumaithi, director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), told Gulf News on Sunday that the blogger was called because he broke the law.

“This man broke the law, despite our warnings about the ban on shooting stunt videos and climbing towers. He was detained on Saturday and charged with causing threats to his and other lives. If something went wrong with his stunt, he could fall on someone, ”Al Rumethi commented.

Kingston tweeted: “I was arrested by CID here in Dubai. Four undercover agents took me out of my hotel room today without warning. ”

The video, shared about three weeks ago and already having gained more than 574 thousand views, was accompanied by an explanation from Kingston, in which he said that he finally managed to find a place where he could jump from one tower crane to another. The young man performs a trick without insurance and hangs at an altitude of approximately 300-400 m.

This arrest is not the first blogger career. In 2014, he was already detained by Dubai police after his climb to the 413-meter Princess Tower. Then he had to give written consent that he would not repeat his tricks, but in 2017 he returned to YouTube again.

James Kingston admits that Burj Khalifa remains on the list of potential goals for the future.

“People watch the video and think it looks dangerous, but what they don’t see is the years of practice that make up my tricks,” he told his subscribers.

Kingston's last trick was published about two weeks after the Dubai police had a similar conversation with the Russian 23-year-old model Victoria Odintsova, who hung from the 73-story Cayan Tower on only one arm of her companion.

Dubai police recalls how important it is for residents and visitors to avoid such dangerous ways of spending time without taking the necessary precautions or obtaining prior permission from the authorities.
