The largest library in the Arab world will open in Dubai this year

A new library in Dubai worth $ 270 million should open in accordance with the schedule - in 2018.

The head of the municipality of Dubai urged contractors working on the project of the library named after Mohammed bin Rashid worth 1 billion dirhams ($ 270 million) to ensure the opening of the object in accordance with the schedule by mid-2018.

The library, launched by the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in February 2016, contains more than 1.5 million volumes, 1 million audio books and 2 million e-books. Thus, it will become the world's largest electronic collection and the largest library in the Arab world.

The total project area will exceed 90 thousand square meters. The library will consist of specialized sections - the Arab Library, the Public Library and the Children's Library, the International Library, the Media Library, the Library of Periodicals - and will be able to receive 42 million visitors and over 100 cultural events annually.

During a visit to the construction site, Hussein Nasser Luta, general manager of the municipality of Dubai, praised the progress on the new landmark. He emphasized the importance of the project and instructed the project team of consultants, contractors and engineers to complete the project on time.

The seven-story building, designed in the form of an open book, will also house a permanent art gallery and specialized institutions working to maintain and develop the Arabic language.

The library includes a center for the preservation and restoration of books, manuscripts and documents, a special library for the Al Maktoum collection and a museum of civilization.
