From this Saturday, drivers in Abu Dhabi will have to pay extra for service at the gas station

Motorists in Abu Dhabi this weekend will need to pay for the work of gas station employees.

Starting June 30, the Adnoc flex system will come into force at 150 Adnoc gas stations in Abu Dhabi, which will be extended to the northern emirates in the coming months. Motorists must pay 10 dirhams ($ US 2.7) for premium services or pour gasoline on their own.

For 10 dirhams, the station employee will take care of servicing the client’s car, wash the windshield and check the tire pressure.

The introduction of the “smart tags” option is also being prepared, which allows customers to refuel and pay for gasoline using the tag installed on the vehicle. To get it, customers need to register online and pay for the activation of 50 dirhams ($ US 13.6).

Also on Tuesday, a bonus system was announced for premium customers, which will provide them with discounts on a number of products - from coffee to car washes.

Elderly people and people with special needs are exempted from new fees - staff will serve them anyway.

According to Adnoc Distribution, the new fees were not introduced for commercial reasons, but in order to distinguish between premium services and self-service.

John Carey, Adnoc Distribution's Deputy Executive Director, cited analytics that said up to 50 percent of customers would choose premium services.
