Abu Dhabi police arrest three people for dancing on the road

Abu Dhabi police arrested three young people for performing a dance popular in social networks on the roadway.

On Monday, the Abu Dhabi prosecutor's office issued an order to arrest and prosecute three people for performing the Kiki Dance on the road. These actions were regarded as a threat to the life and health of other road users.

According to the statement of the Legal Department of Abu Dhabi, people violated public order, pushed other people on social networks to actions contrary to the values and traditions of the UAE society.

Over the past three days, the hashtag #Kiki has hit the trends of social networks. Under this hashtag, users upload a video in which they dance next to a car rolling along the road to the song of the popular singer Drake "In My Feelings". This whole trend has a name - "Kiki Challenge".

The idea of the “Kiki Challenge” is to get out of the car while it slowly rolls, open the door and dance next to it.

Prosecutors say that participating in the so-called Kiki Challenge is a criminal offense. The fun threatens its participants with imprisonment or a fine in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Criminal Code and Law No. 21 of 1995 regarding traffic.

The authorities emphasize that getting out of the car while driving and dancing on the road is dangerous both for the "dancer" and for other road users.

Moreover, such behavior is contrary to the public values of the UAE and undermines moral standards.

The authorities have the right to arrest any person who decides to take part in the rally.

Department staff also announced the harmful effects of the so-called "challenge." According to authorities, young people should spend their time on useful activities that are consistent with the UAE's values and that promote physical, social, mental and moral development.

Young people should not blindly follow Western fashion. The Department encouraged social media stars to be more accountable to youth and society.
