UAE Ministry of Health clarifies compulsory health insurance

Employers in the Emirates are required to provide medical insurance to all married female workers, even if they are not on the company's visa, official sources in the UAE Ministry of Health said.

In accordance with article 11 of the new Law on Compulsory Insurance, employers in the Emirates are required to provide each employee with full medical insurance, even if a specific person works in the company while staying in the country on the visa of an investor, husband or father. Employers are also required to provide insurance not only for their widowed mothers who are dependent on their children, but also for three of her children under the age of 18.

Working women who are dependent on husbands with disabilities should receive insurance for themselves, the husband and three children under the age of 18 years. Representatives of the Ministry of Health urged employers not to defer insurance until the last moment: if an employee does not have a valid health insurance at the time of applying for medical services, the employer will be obliged to pay for them.
